“I hope to sustain and support the liveability of Victoria through encouraging the social and artistic endeavours in our community.” These are the words that Belsonia (Bel) Paul claims as her personal mission. A familiar face to many people in the Victoria community, Bel has been a fund holder at the Foundation since 1996.
As a long-time supporter of Pacific Coast Public Television Association (PCPTA) and KCTS 9, the recipient of PCPTA donations, it was Bel’s suggestion that the Victoria Foundation would be a good fit for supporters on Vancouver Island.
“We met Belsonia several years ago at our Canadian Open House where we invite our viewers to meet PBS talent, KCTS 9 staff and preview our fall schedule,” said Jill Bodkin, Director of Canadian Development for KCTS 9.
“Since that time, we have been considering ways to facilitate opportunities for viewers who want to support us.”
Bel Paul was excited to match Pacific Coast Public Television Association's initial $10,000 contribution to establish the Pacific Coast Public Television Association Fund at the Victoria Foundation.
“We are delighted to launch our Victoria Foundation partnership with Belsonia, who plays such an instrumental role in the Victoria community,” said Bodkin.
KCTS 9 recognizes its 67,000 member viewers in Victoria relish public television programs which inform, involve and inspire.
“I like the fact that the programming is uninterrupted, varied and interesting,” said Paul. “And I believe that KCTS echoes and demonstrates these values.”
In 2007, over 11,000 Vancouver Island donors gave $930,000 in gifts to PC PTA in support of programming on KCTS 9. Donors to the Pacific Coast Public Television Association Fund at the Victoria Foundation may choose to help build its endowment, underwrite programs, production, educational services or operations.
