Pacific Opera Victoria - Mary's Wedding - World Première
Friday, November 11, 2011
Composer Andrew MacDonald and playwright/librettist Stephen Massicotte bring Pacific Opera Victoria its first new opera commission, Mary’s Wedding in time for Remembrance Day this November. Set on the prairies and the battlefields of Ypres, Mary’s Wedding is a love letter to the power of memory and innocence, and to a generation of Canadians caught in the crucible of the First World War. Through the unique intensity of opera, we realize we are the children of Mary’s Wedding.
Thank you to all who participated in the following events in 2011!

Victoria Symphony Season Opening Night - World Première
Monday, September 12, 2011
The Victoria Symphony débuted a generous gift to the community from a former Chatelaine of Government House, Jane Rogers, in memory of her husband, the late Lieutenant Governor Bob Rogers and in honour of the Foundation’s 75th anniversary. Composer Anthony Genge explained that the piece is a celebration of the contribution to the community that both Bob and the Victoria Foundation have made. Celebratory and uplifting, there were no solo performances within the piece as the focus was on the orchestra as a whole - in representation of an entire community.
75 Years and Counting celebration
Saturday, June 11, 2011
On Saturday, June 11th we celebrated our roots, our history, local charitable organizations and our community. Global TV BC News Anchor Chris Gailus was emcee and the evening’s keynote, Tim Brodhead, CEO of the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation spoke about philanthropy and the community foundation movement. 75th anniversary Premier sponsor Island Savings presentied Canada’s very own Rick Mercer for an hour of comedy as only he can deliver. The evening included a cocktail reception and an elegant dinner. As the Foundation does not want to compete with the non-profit organizations that it funds, the evening was solely a celebration with no fundraising activities.
